El público ya puede participar en las votaciones a través de vote.mtv.com, con 11 categorías disponibles.
Se permiten hasta 20 votos por categoría, aunque posteriormente el límite se reducirá a 10.
La sede de la ceremonia aún no está confirmada oficialmente, aunque todo apunta a que los VMAs podrían regresar a Los Ángeles, mientras que tampoco se ha anunciado quién será el conductor de esta edición.
